“There are so many opportunities in healthcare, so you never have to be limited.”
Sinéad moved to the UK to begin her nursing career in 2011, but her ambition to work in healthcare started long before that. From a young age, she was self-invested in her journey and knew she wanted to help change people’s lives and make a genuine impact.
Originally from Ireland, Sinéad began her career in East London, where she built her background in acute care, then further specialising in general intensive care. While she valued her time on hospital wards, she soon found herself seeking new challenges and broader opportunities. Recognising this growing ambition, she began exploring the next steps in her healthcare journey.
Through a head-hunter, Sinéad discovered FME UK&I where she started as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Her career continued to progress, and she went on to become a Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist, taking on responsibility for the FME UK&I division. In 2023, Sinéad transitioned into her current role as the Nursing Manager of Care Enablement for the for the UK & Ireland teams, managing clinical teams within Home Therapies, In-Centre and Critical Care business units.
Although she no longer works in a hands-on clinical role, delivering high-quality care and supporting her teams remain central to Sinéad’s work. She leads clinical teams across both UK and Ireland, ensuring accounts are well supported and that training is delivered to a consistently high standard. She also works closely with colleagues in Germany, home to the FME headquarters, as part of a wider international network.
Patient empowerment continues to be a key focus in her role. Sinéad works closely with the Home Therapies team, who are making a significant impact by enabling those with kidney disease to manage their therapy at home. She is particularly appreciative of the patient relations team, whose support helps those with kidney disease adapt to treatment while maintaining time with family and life at home.
In her day-to-day, Sinéad’s analytical mind and desire to learn are vital to her role, as she monitors ongoing changes that may impact her team's work. She closely monitors changes across the healthcare landscape, from updates to NICE guidelines to evolving NHS processes – ensuring her teams remain informed, compliant, and well prepared.
She prides herself on being both adaptable and strategically focused, qualities that have helped her navigate an ever-changing healthcare environment. Like many industries over the last 6 years, Sinéad has weathered the changes in the healthcare landscape left from COVID-19. Training sessions and classes moved online for the first time, creating new challenges for teams across the sector. In the years since, Sinéad has found that a blended learning offering supports customers in achieving their training outcomes. Offering the flexibility of e-learning, online teaching and face to face training gives customers options and flexibilities for their teams as well as offering those same flexibilities for the team of field-based nurses.
Sinéad is a strong advocate for pursuing a career in healthcare as the wide range of pathways available means opportunities are limitless, and she embodies the drive to keep moving forward in your career. She encourages her team to pursue their ambitions and explore the pathways open to them within FME UK&I. From her early days in intensive care to her current leadership role, Sinéad’s journey reflects both her personal commitment to growth and the development opportunities available within the organisation.
