Colleague Spotlight: Lyndsay Dennis-King

“It feels good to be a part of something that is liberating for so many people”

Lyndsay’s pharmacy journey began at just sixteen, when she took on a Saturday job at her local community pharmacy in her hometown of Nottingham. Starting out behind the counter, she supported both patients and the wider pharmacy team. What began as a part-time role soon developed into a genuine and evolving passion.

Motivated by her strong work ethic and an increasing interest in healthcare, Lyndsay naturally progressed into a Dispenser role before securing a position as a Pharmacy Technician. Although Lyndsay’s original plan was to attend university to study Art, Pharmacy soon emerged as the front runner for her – and is a calling she continues to pursue at Fresenius Medical Care UK & Ireland today.

In January 2021, Lyndsay joined FME UK&I as a Pharmacy Technician – driven by an aspiration to work for a global medical company. With years of knowledge and community pharmacy experience under her belt, Lyndsay was excited to use her learnings in a hospital-facing role. After just six months, Lyndsay was quickly promoted to Lead Pharmacy Technician, where she began to manage a small group.

Day to day, Lyndsay’s work is mainly office and warehouse-based. Her role involves receiving prescriptions, looking at home delivery patient data and releasing orders, liaising with hospital colleagues and responding to any queries they may have. It’s a busy workload, but one that Lyndsay and her team balance with care, accuracy and vigilance.

Although Lyndsay is no longer in a patient-facing role, patient-centred care remains the golden thread of her work, continuing to guide Lyndsay and remaining a priority even with limited direct patient contact. When Lyndsay has the opportunity to speak with patients, it provides a powerful and welcome reminder of their individual experiences. Hearing their stories highlights the vital role dialysis plays in improving quality of life — and reinforces the meaningful impact that Lyndsay and the wider team have every day. Working within renal care has opened Lyndsay’s eyes to the realities of CKD and the true benefits that home haemodialysis can have – “It feels good to be a part of something that is liberating for so many people and ultimately life changing to those who receive it.”

For Lyndsay, one of the most rewarding parts of her role has been working alongside a small team that she is proud to call her friends. With many clinical aspects to the role, working with a dynamic group of colleagues who share the same passion is incredibly important. Working at FME UK&I has also provided Lyndsay the opportunity to receive on-the-job training to expand the knowledge she already had from community pharmacy. One example of the training Lyndsay has completed at FME UK&I is Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician training, which is vital to her position and a valuable undertaking for progression in the field.

As technological advancements and environmental sustainability continue to shape the healthcare landscape and renal pharmacology, Lyndsay enters her fourth year with FME UK&I eager to see how her role will continue to evolve.
