Environmental protection

In our Global Environmental Policy, we commit to using natural resources as efficiently as possible. The policy also includes our commitment to business practices that promote the protection of the environment and minimize adverse environmental impact of our business. Around the globe, we monitor environmental data from our dialysis clinics and production sites.

We support the goals of the Paris Agreement and are committed to contributing to the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Our climate targets cover emissions from our own operations and our value chain. They have been validated by the Science-based Targets initiative. We aim to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain by 2050, with a 90% reduction in scope 1, market-based scope 2, and scope 3 emissions compared with the respective base years (scope 1 and 2: 2020; scope 3: 2024).

We also have SBTi-validated near-term targets for 2030, including a 50% reduction in scope 1 and market-based scope 2 emissions compared with 2020, as well as scope 3 reduction and supplier engagement targets.

In addition, we aim to reduce our combined scope 1 and market-based scope 2 emissions by 90% by 2040, so ten years ahead of our net-zero target; this target has not been externally validated.

Environmental initiatives

To continuously improve our environmental performance, we are involved in local sustainability projects which we report as part of our global Green & Lean initiative.

Green and Lean initiatives enable best practices to be shared between plants with a view to using natural resources efficiently. We share our annual progress of the initiative related to saved energy, avoided emissions, saved water, and recycled or reused waste.
